Where it Began
Kate Carver
Hi, I'm Kate and I am an LCSW in the state of North Carolina. I started my therapy journey in 2013 by attending the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL. After finishing my MSW I felt like a change was needed so I moved to Raleigh, NC where I started working in the community and at risk youth and their families. A few years later I decided that working in an outpatient setting would allow me to work with a wider range of folks and needs. In early 2023 if felt like the right time to venture out on my own and start CRC. CRC is about change.
How it's going
Personal Journey
I'm about as open a book as you will ever find. I feel like this allows me to connect with people on a deeper level because I'm just a person too. I have a deep love of animals and nature, especially trees. I love the things we can learn from them and often use them in my practice. My wife and I have a small zoo consisting of 4 dogs, 6 cats, 4 different geckos and 6 ball pythons. We often spend our weekends shredding the local mountain bike trails or riding the ATT with friends.
The thing I appreciate most about my personal journey to therapy is that it took time. I went back to school at 30 to peruse this career and would not trade my life before then for anything. I have worked in food service and retail. I played college soccer and professional women's football. I have moved across states more times than I can count. I have experienced heartbreak and grief from losing loved ones. I have also done my own therapy. It is this experience that helps me meet you where you are in your journey.
Experience
How did I get here?
Prior to attending grad school I worked as a mental health tech at an inpatient facility in Florida. It was this experience that helped push me towards getting my MSW and paved the way for a successful career in mental health. While in grad school I continued to work at the inpatient facility in a few different aspect including an internship with the social work department. I was also able to work in community mental health and with veterans as part of my curriculum. After earning my MSW I left Florida and started with with at risk youth implementing MST in the community with the teens and their families. This is where my love for working with teens started. Since then I have taken to outpatient therapy, which has allowed me the ability to work with a wide range of people and their individual mental health needs.
